Ballet Idaho's The Nutcracker

The russian interpretation of the "Nutcracker" an infamous American christmas tradition, includes different renditions while keeping a close American connection. An extensive ballet set, directed by Peter Anastos, and the music of Peter Illyach Tchaikovsky, who also produced the music for Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Romeo and Juliet. The ballet is based around dancing holiday confections--in Act II, Spanish Chocolate, Chinese Tea, Arabian Coffee, French Marzipan, Russian Nougat, Salt Water Taffy Sailors and the Dewdrop Fairy all perform for Clara, the girl whose dream is the main plot of the story. This rendition is being performed by Ballet Idaho, yet every company performs the ballet different. Over the last 100 years and little bits the Nutcracker is a holiday favorite.
